The brief

Support ASIC’s Scams Awareness Week campaign by editing a social video featuring a deepfake effect to demonstrate how convincing AI-manipulated content can appear. The video aimed to encourage Australians to question investment advice and information they encounter online, particularly when it appears to come from a familiar or trusted figure.

The challenge: a convincing but safe deepfake

Deepfake technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it harder for consumers to distinguish genuine content from manipulated footage.

The challenge was to create a convincing deepfake effect that demonstrated this risk, while ensuring the final video remained suitable for public education and social media distribution.

The edit also needed to accommodate on-screen messaging, subtitles and different placement requirements, with final refinements required close to the campaign launch.

The strategy: refining the effect in post

We supported the campaign through video post-production, applying and refining the deepfake effect to the supplied footage.

Our editing work helped demonstrate how easily a familiar face could be manipulated to deliver misleading investment information, reinforcing the campaign’s message about questioning what you see online.

We also refined the video’s on-screen elements, subtitle placement and safe zones to ensure the final execution was clear and ready for social distribution.

The solution: a social-ready scams awareness video

The final video was delivered ready for social, with subtitles, on-screen messaging and safe zones refined for each placement. It gives Australians a clear, memorable example of how convincing a deepfake can be, and a simple reason to question investment advice online, even when it comes from a familiar face.
