Sydney Festival website on laptop, tablet and phone

The brief

Tonic has been building and supporting the Sydney Festival website for over 15 years. The latest brief: a website as bold as the festival’s program, where thousands of festival-goers can find an event and book tickets in a few taps.

The challenge: a website as bold as the festival

Sydney Festival needed a website as bold as its program, and one that could handle the rush when the program launches and tickets go on sale. It also had to work hand in hand with Enta, the ticketing and event creation platform the festival team uses to build and sell its program.

Users were struggling to find event information, buy tickets and explore the full festival experience online. As Sydney Festival’s long-term digital partner, we were asked to make the website as easy to use as the festival is to enjoy: find an event, check the details and book, on any device.

The strategy: mobile-first event discovery

We put ourselves in the shoes of every festival-goer, from first-timers to seasoned arts lovers, and asked what they needed most.

The answer was a site that made discovering events and booking tickets effortless, whether browsing from a phone on the go or planning from a laptop at home, with Enta at its core so the festival team could create events and manage tickets in one place.

We also worked closely with the Sydney Festival team to bring their bold new visual identity to life in the build, and to celebrate the diversity of their program.

The solution: sales up 31% on the same traffic

We built a mobile-first website on Laravel that puts users at the heart of the experience, ready for the traffic spikes when the program launches and tickets go on sale. A streamlined events page with smart filters makes discovering performances easy, and an integration with Enta handles ticketing and event creation.

We integrated the site with Enta, so events created by the festival team flow straight onto the website and festival-goers move from browsing to booking without missing a beat. Pages load fast, filters narrow the program in seconds, and the design carries the festival’s energy onto every screen.

The results show up at the box office. For Sydney Festival 2026, sales are up 31% on last year from the same level of traffic, and the engagement rate is up 10%. Tonic continues to support and develop the site each festival season, as it has for over 15 years.
